Especially when created for one of the most respected graphic designers alive.

Recently we had the privilege of printing invitations to the iconic designer, Massimo Vignelli’s, surprise birthday party. He turned 80 this year! The design is not unexpected, grid based, Helvetica in black and red letterpress, perfectly simple. The finished invite was mounted on 2 layers of museum board, the thing is stiff as a piece of plywood. We do a lot of interesting work, but this was an extremely special and unique piece which we are proud to have printed.

Read the New York Times article on the party and see photos here .

P.S. Just to be clear, we did not design this piece. We did the letterpress and mounting work.

Here is a 2 color letterpress business card we just ran for The Finishing Touch. The fronts and the back where printed separately, then glued together to make a heavier card. A very nice touch. The paper is Lettra Pearl 110#, which makes the card 220#.

This one was a first for us. A screen print/letterpress combo. Washington Irving’s horsemen¬†rides through the woods on the screen printed background. Then the type went down in black letterpress. We used French Paper’s Construction Safety Orange 100lb. cover, which is a beautifully rich sheet.

Over the past weeks we’ve seen our calendars showing up around. Thanks to the bloggers who have kindly spolighted some of our work. The Reference Council, Designworklife, Salt + Pepper,¬†hola!design, and LukeSF.

As always, thanks for checking in.

Here is our latest calendar. We went with a nostalgic, olde-tyme feel. This is the first big project we did on Cordenon Canaletto Granna Grossa 111#. Such a beautiful sheet. The impression is deep, and there’s that texture that no other paper has.

Happy August Everyone!
This month we printed a one color calendar on French Paper’s Speckletone Sand. It took the impression nicely, and is a very lovely paper. It’s nice to mix it up, and French offers plenty of ways to do that.

Hope everyone has, or is, taking some time off to enjoy the summer. As always, thanks for checking in!

It’s July!
Parties, picnics, swimming, relaxing, on and on and on. Summer is here.
We’ve put up some photos of our July calendar. This was a three color job, a mix of hand drawn art and typography. The overlapping areas give a nice purple.

As always, thanks for checking in, and have a wonderful Independence day!
